Let's Talk About Wedding Stationery: How To Select and Budget For It

There are many costs that couples don’t always consider while planning a wedding – today I want to talk about stationery.

 As soon as you start to consider what you want your Save the Dates and Wedding Invitations to look like, you suddenly have to start thinking about what you want the rest of your paper goods to look like and which ones you actually need to have. And the list for what you’ll want to consider having designed, purchased, and printed – is quite long.

Here’s the list:

-       Save the Dates

-       Wedding Invitations

-       Ceremony Programs

-       Reception Place Cards or Seating Chart

-       Table Numbers

-       Reception Menu

-       Wedding Day Hashtag Sign

-       Specialty Cocktail Sign

-       Cards & Gifts Sign

-       Welcome to the Wedding Sign

-       Thank You Cards

Wondering how to have all of these items in the most budget friendly way? Let me break it down for you:

 Save the Dates

  • Create it using Paperless Post and send it electronically

    • Cost: $100 for up to 1000 coins (the number of coins needed per invitation depends on the complexity of the design – most are 1-2 coins)

 

Wedding Invitations

  • Use Zola. You can design the invitations and even have guest addresses written on the envelopes and they will ship it to you

    • Cost: $500 for 300 invitations and then you will need to physically post them at the post office (approximately $0.50 per piece so with 300 = $150)

      • You can save even more money by having guests RSVP online instead of including RSVP cards for them to mail back

  • Etsy has everything you need for these! You can find templates that match the theme of your wedding and many of the templates are less than $10!

  • Cost to purchase: Templates range but you can get most everything you need somewhere between $3 - $10

If you go to Staples to print this last group of items, you should plan to spend between $200 - $400 depending on what your printing and the quantities.

 So, what does this all add up to? Well, if you’re having a 300-person wedding and getting EVERYTHING printed, you’re looking at spending approximately $1,200.

 You’re probably like O M G - this is a lot. I hear you. So, if you’re on a super strict budget, I suggest you focus on designing and printing your:

-       Wedding invitation

-       Dinner menu

-       Seating chart
