Why You Should Do a First Look Photo on Your Wedding Day

Before I go into why you should do first look photos, let me tell you what a first look photo is.

A first look photo is a moment that happens between a bride and groom PRIOR to walking down the aisle to get married. It’s a moment when they see each other for the first time all decked out. It’s a moment where they can spend quiet time cherishing what is the beginning of their life chapter as a married couple. There’s no set amount a time that a first look moment has to last, it can be as long or as short as you desire, after all, it’s YOUR MOMENT.

So now that you know what a first look photo is, here are three reasons why you should do it on your wedding day.

  1. You get the most beautiful photos of you and your partner together without family, friends, the wedding party in your space. These are photos that you’ll be able to cherish forever and really create a story around how you were both feeling during those moments, why? Because you weren’t pressed for time. You’ll both be at your freshest and it’ll come through in the photos. It’s just such a romantic and intimate moment

  2. It allows you to JUST BREATHE. Does seeing your partner and being in their presence tend to put you at ease? Well then, a first look should definitely be on your priority list! You’ll be able to spend time with them and calm each other’s nerves. You can connect with your partner, get excited about the day together, say a prayer together, and just be one before everyone is in your space for the next 5 hours.

  3. Your wedding day will go by fast. Ask any couple and they’ll tell you a few things they don’t remember about their wedding - things that you can’t even imagine they’d forget! You want as many moments as possible to be present and really remember what was happening throughout the day - and seeing your partner, their reaction, and how you all felt together before the ceremony begins should be one of them! When you know that you’ve gotten pictures with the one who truly matter (your partner) you’ll be at peace knowing that these pictures are out of the way and you can spend the rest of the wedding celebration hanging with guests and making those memories as well!

Understandably, not every couple will want to do a first look photo - and that’s okay! Don’t feel pressured to do something that you don’t want to do -afterall it is YOUR day. Just make sure to assess what means the most to you and plan the day accordingly. I will leave you with this though:

If you’re a bride who feel like they only want their groom to see their wedding dress for the first time when they walk down the aisle - think about it like this, he’s going to see you during the first look photo and be able to spend 10-15 minutes admiring you, showering you with compliments of your beauty in that dress versus 10 seconds doing that when you reach the aisle - and you’ll actually be able to relish in it. Which one would you prefer? Me personally, I’d go for the former.

But again, the choice is completely yours and regardless of what you decide, it’ll be a beautiful day and your true dream come true!
